Farmgirl Friday

Despite the wet weather, Colin and Ella got the first lot of the tomatoes into the ground yesterday.   Well, Daddy planted and Ella supervised.  The tomatoes are very delicate, so Daddy does all the handling.

One of the farms Colin's dad owns (the Poff farm) is what is called a long hundred, meaning it runs from one concession (or Trans Canada hwy in our case) back to the next concession.   In the middle is a pond and gully that is always full of trilliums.    There are so many, it's hard to believe the trillium needs to be a protected species.

Right now our yard is full of ladybugs.  They aren't the usual ones, they are the Asian ones.   Like Daddy says, so long as they eat aphids he doesn't care  :)

And finally a picture of a surprise I found in the garden.  It's a fritillaria and I thought it had died last year.  I've been trying to keep the weeds back.

Head over to Deborah Jean's and see what the other farm girls are up too.
