Life!!!???!!!

Hello friends,

NLS is HARD. Yep. Anyway, I'm exhausted, and my brain is whirling nonstop with lifeguarding, music, and trying to figure out what the next few steps in my life will be. It seems I have a lot of opposites in my soul right now, and I have to learn to balance them. We are all so complicated, we humans! Life is certainly interesting, and hopefully I can make heads or tails of mine sometime soon.

I will finish NLS this Sunday, and I'll either be a lifeguard (pass) or not. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Anything would help. Next week I can start getting my brain around things. I'm also feeling very negative about flute lately, and could use some prayer on that. Either I have to re-adjust and positive-ize my feelings about it, or I have to make some serious decisions. Big stuff. Scary stuff. Prayer and thoughts appreciated. And...am I going to get a degree? Should I do a B. Mus even though I'll have my ARCT? Am I going to become a paramedic? ("Woah! She's thinking of becoming a paramedic? When did that happen???") What do I flippin' do???

Yeah, big stuff. AND...I'm 16, so I can't vote (yet!!!) but in a few weeks time, there will be federal elections in Canada: October 14, to be exact. If you are 18+ and a citizen of Canada please vote! I am trying to sort out the whole political scene right now, (great unschooling!) and so far, it looks like my views are best demonstrated by the Green Party. Crazy, I know. I'm not saying for sure yet, but I'm doing a LOT of reading and research. Very interesting. So all I am saying is...

VOTE!!!!!

Just a thought. :)

And, I got Facebook. So if you know me well enough to know my last name, look me up. I've got my middle name in there too, so you might want to add it in if I don't come up the first time.

And now I need to sleep. Piano in the morning. YEEAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Love and hugs,
Sheila Christine

Mushroom play

So today I worked with the images of the mushrooms and made two designs.... This is the one I like best... not bad for an iphone camera ... I might adjust the top right element to be larger.
I think this could lead somewhere... I love curling edges and the contrasting dripping ink and that could be an added element if I work with some splatters of paint on the base fabric... love ink blots and blowing ink with a straw....I might play with this one.

Melissa

If you click on the link to the right "Melissa playing mountain dulcimer" you will be able to hear and see a delightful piece of dulcimer music. I knew I wanted to learn to play the dulcimer (since first hearing one whilst learning about Reiki in The Netherlands) and Melissa inspired me to actually buy one. Now I welcome the long winter nights in Calgary.

This one just took shape in my hands and became carp in a stream for some reason... I have no idea why.
I made it with Maaike my new friend in Calgary in mind as she travels to The Netherlands at a difficult time. I couldn't send it quickly enough but it will await her on her return.

Best wishes Maaike.

Layering, stitching hand and machine, attacking with a heat tool (of course), shadow quilting (I suppose), beading (a little).

The lady at the post office in Britannia Place didn't bat an eyelid when I went to frank Deborah's card... "Oh, no problem." she said, "I have seen this sort of thing before. Have a great afternoon."

Sweet Bag - for Aliya, Postcard for Deborah

I am benefiting from the support of Pfaff sewing machine company here in Calgary and attended a workshop where Kerin demonstrated how to make this small bag. I used bits of my sewing machine that I had not done before. I now know how to sew a button hole for instance!!

So there is cutwork, lacework, wing-needle embroidery as well as stitching out motifs using the computer software.

The bag is big enough to hold a loo roll - I know cos I made a second one and gave it to Ragnhild - another new arrival here in Calgary, as a house warming gift! And what every new house needs is a spare loo roll in its holder.

Then there is this postcard made to send a get well wish to Deborah... My first attempt at felting with a felting needle, silk and wool and hand and machine stitching.

Now I am off to the local post office - to see if they will accept it. Will the stamp stay on? Will it arrive at her hospital bed intact or at all?

I'm here...really!

Hey friends,

I really AM alive, in fact, I'm quite a bit more alive than I have been in a while. That's why I haven't posted for a while. :) I am working on a very interesting (possibly two-part) post, but it's going to have to wait a bit longer yet. I am going to be away Friday-Saturday-Sunday, so likely it won't be until next week. I'm taking my NLS (National Lifeguard Service) course, so I'll be BUSY and TIRED. In the vain of lifeguarding, and to keep you laughing, here's a cartoon I found yesterday and spent a long time laughing at. Really tickled my funny bone. :D Enjoy!

Hugs,
Sheila Christine

Poster presentation at Redditch Needle Museum

I have submitted some information boards to the Redditch Needle Museum, and their exhibition for the Charles Henry Foyle Trust (following on from my winnings last year) I thought I would show the boards here... at the exhibition they are displayed in a case with some samples  - and the pieces of work I have been doing is not shown here... I didn't photograph it before sending to Britain.

Progress? Yes, today I visited "Out of Hand" a sewing shop/store very near our house.  Lots of supplies and very knowledgeable owner.  Bought a felting needle and a bit of wool to have a go with tomorrow at Jan's stitch group.

Stitched Al's bag, following course at Sewing World with the educational advisor from Pfaff.  It really is another world here.  I will post an image of the Formally embroidered bag I did there... when I have assembled it tomorrow... not quite me but it is very much Al.

For now here is a picture of my work area - a wonderful studio, love the sitting area.  I am in heaven.

Just for fun...

I'm keeping this blog for now. We'll see how I feel in six months, and I may play around with sprucing up this one a bit. I need some green in here! Also, I'm working on a really interesting (and long...possibly two part?) post, but I just found one of these really idiotic questionaire things, and I'm going to fill it out...just for fun. :)

Can you successfully blow up and tie a balloon?
Yes I can...though sometimes they slip and I have to re-blow it. Silly fingers!

What was your last purchase?
Ummm...a voice lesson. :D And it was a good one!!!

Does anyone like you?
What kind of like? Lots of people like me, (at least I hope so!) and I think one person liked me this summer. It was honestly hilarious. Hahahaaa!

Have you made anyone laugh while they were crying lately?
No...I'm not so great at that. But Jen is. She always makes me laugh at most inopportune moments! :P

Are you easily amused?
Sometimes, but sometimes easy amusement just annoys me.

Do you sleep on your side, stomach, or back?
I used to sleep only on my side, but now it bugs my shoulders, so I often sleep on my tummy, unless it bugs my neck, at which time I sleep on my back. Ah well!

Have you ever liked somebody and never told them?
Oh probably.

What did you do Saturday?
What did I do? Not much. I prepared for the flute gig, practiced some piano, read books, and surfed the web.

Do you trust all of your friends?
Yes, but....

Morning or night person?
Night. Though if I'm well rested, I do love the crisp, morning air.

Are you taller than 5′5”?
Nope, but I'm almost 5'5". I hope I don't grow anymore! I like being an inch shorter than everybody!

Would you rather have love or money?
Love. Absolutely.

Do you have a best friend that knows you inside and out?
Sort of. There are some people who think they know me really well, some people who just don't know me well, and some people who understand the deepest me. But I don't know if there is anyone who completely understands me. I'm an enigma...at least to myself. Haha!

Last person you watched movies with?
My parents.

Do you hide your emotions?
Sometimes, yes, but it hurts. Other times, I wear my heart on my sleeve.

Do you prefer to take showers at night or in the morning?
Morning.

If you could either float on the moon, or snorkel in the ocean, which?
Float on the moon. That would be fun!

Do you think you’ll be married in 5 years?
I'd like to think so, but you never know!

Third text in your inbox? from who?
I don't text...so let's do email. It's an email from Jen with Grade 10 flute technique requirements. Oh joy!

Have you been to New York City?
No, and I have no aspirations to.

Who was the last person you talked to on the phone?
Susan. :D I'm going to see her tomorrow! Yeaaahhhhh!!!!!

Do you need to say anything to anyone?
Yes.

What were you doing at 7am?
Sleeping. Hahahahaaaaa! I couldn't sleep last night, and it was probably close to 3am by the time I drifted off, so I slept until 9:30 this morning.

What do you think of your number 3 on your top friends?
Top friends? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.

Can you legally drink?
No. A year and...8 months. But I don't want to drink.

When is the last time you saw your mom?
She's in the room right now.

Do you prefer shoes, socks, or bare feet?
Bare feet ARE the best shoes!!! Bar none!

Have you ever been in an ambulance?
Yes, but not for me. February 16, for my Mum. That was a tough day.

Do you hold grudges?
I have in the past, but I think I'm okay now.

Do you sing obnoxiously in the car?
I don't drive on my own, (Yet!!!) and usually I'm not in a random singing mood when others are around, but yes, occasionally.

When was the last time you had butterflies in your stomach?
Tuesday. I get very excited about my lessons, and I had a voice lesson!

Are you watching TV?
Nope.

Done! That was truly insane, but it was fun!

Hugs... (BIG, squeezy hugs!!!)
Chrissi
